The clothing, before reaching our closet, has followed a long way and has gone through innumerable processes and hands, since it is manufactured until it is transported and, in the end, it is marketed.Textile technology has made a long way in the search for a wide range of shapes, colors and types of fibers, from natives such as cotton, silk or wool, synthetic such as nylon, polyester, acrylic or rayon.

The tissues that are used to make clothing garments are sometimes finished through chemical processes to enhance their characteristics, such as agents to reinforce tissues and make them not wrinkle, according to the European Agency for Chemical Substances (ECHA).It recognizes that, during the manufacturing process, a tissue can go through a wide variety of chemical and non -chemical treatments, which include preparation, dye, stamping and improvement of tissues.

Some of these substances are biocides, flame retardants, hydrophogos and gates.The European Chemical Agency (ECHA) admits them and adds starch, sulfated oils or waxes in the group.One of the objectives in fabric manufacturing is to ensure that these are more resistant to water, spots, wrinkles, bacteria and mold.

According to a study conducted in 2015 by the University of Stockholm, Sweden, some of the substances used can increase the risk of allergic dermatitis.These substances that are used to give color and shape to clothing can, in some cases, remain as waste.For research, experts analyzed the quantity, toxicity and ease with which certain substances can penetrate the skin, and detected that the highest concentrations of aromatic quinolins and amines were found in polyester tissues.

After washing clothes, experts determined that some of the substances were removed, although others remained in certain amounts.Although most people will not suffer any damage, allergic people, with sensitive skin or atopic skin, can suffer irritations and eczema.Experts then admitted that, despite the results, it is very difficult to know if the levels of certain chemical substances are dangerous and what effects can have in the long term on clothing.

It is also evident that a garment of a store shelving is exposed to numerous hands of customers who, in addition, usually try it as many times as needed.To a greater or lesser extent, any piece of clothing can have a certain degree of parasitation, from the hands that manipulate it.

Therefore, the presence of germs is guaranteed.Something that will not cause problems in normal conditions and in people without diseases, but that should be taken into account if some type of skin alteration is suffered or if we talk about newborns.

Wash before brand new

As seen, new clothes are not synonymous with clean clothes.Fungi, humidity, dirt and dust are some of the environmental substances that can absorb stored clothing before it is marketed, in addition to the chemicals that are used in the manufacture of some of them.Some textile garments obtain their particular colors and nuances from certain dyes.

These can cause a severe skin reaction if allergy or less intense reaction is suffered as itching or irritation, especially in certain areas of the body where frictions occur.Another irritating is the formaldehyde resin, which can cause ecchems and cutaneous eruptions.

The general recommendation, therefore, is to wash clothes at least once before releasing it following the manufacturer's rules, which will help us decide at what temperature we must wash it.For example, color garments are better not to submit to high temperatures because the tissues suffer more wear.Something that does not happen with white clothes, which does admit higher temperatures.

The fabric must also be taken into account;White garments but 100% cotton can shrink with hot water.At a temperature of 30ºC, very good results can be achieved.This measure is especially important if the piece in question will go into direct contact with the skin, such as underwear, swimsuits and bikinis, t -shirts or pants.

With the washing the manufacturing remains that can cause undesirable reactions are eliminated, especially those of intense and print colors.It is also advisable, when we go to try clothes that we want to buy, do so carrying another garment in a way to avoid direct contact with the skin.

In the case of babies clothes, clothes should always be washed before it is released so that the products used in its manufacture and the possible microorganisms are eliminated.To this end, specific detergents must be used or that do not contain potentially harmful substances.It should be taken into account that, although the clothes come packaged, this does not mean that it is more harmless.
