Isabel Álvarez Calahorra
A month after its disappearance, the Civil Guard and the Municipal Police have found the author of the robbery during the last Christmas of the figure of the Child Jesus of the Bethlehem of the Paseo del Mercadal. He is a 25 -year -old man from Ecuador and resident in Calahorra, who - as he confessed last Tuesday, once he was identified - ended up throwing the figure into a container.
It was on December 25 of last year when the Civil Guard and the Local Police jointly began the corresponding investigation to locate the author of the theft with the analysis of the images captured by the security cameras of the area during the subtraction of the figure.
In the images, as the Civil Guard points out, there was evidence of how an individual after accessing the interior of the Vallado Enclosure of the Municipal Bethlehem, took the image of the child and hid it among his clothes. Then, security cameras showed this young man abandoning the place in the company of another male.
Last Tuesday, after being located, he gave a statement as the alleged perpetrator of an alleged crime of theft. The involved, who on the other hand has a wide criminal history, recognized the fact and told the agents that when he carried out it was "very harmed by alcohol intake".In these circumstances he confessed that he finally ended up throwing the child's figure to a container.

Once the corresponding proceedings were practiced, the young man was released, with "the warning of the obligation to appear before the judicial authority when it requires it," explains the Benemérita in an informative note.
On the other hand, last week the bust of Pedro Gutiérrez Achútegui, 'favorite son' of Calahorra, of his pedestal in the San Andrés plan disappeared. The sculptural piece, which was paid by popular subscription at the initiative of the Friends Association of the History of Calahorra, has been missing at least since Wednesday of the last week.It was then that the City Council detected its absence and denounced the subtraction before the Civil Guard of Calahorra, after the Local Police made the first checks.
For its part, the City Council appealed to citizen collaboration to find the author or authors of the subtraction. In such a way that those people who can provide information to find the whereabouts of the piece can call the local police phone (941 10 50 87).
