Dr. Guillermo Sequera, director of Health Surveillance, referred to the low number of positive cases of COVID-19 that have been registered at the country level for more than 12 weeks, which led to the relaxation of various health measures with respect to the worst moment of the pandemic that was experienced between April, May and part of the fortnight of July in Paraguay.
Sequera himself calls this situation a "honeymoon" that citizens maintain with the virus and urges to comply with the use of face masks, hand washing and social distancing so that it lasts over time and avoid the third wave of coronavirus. COVID-19, which is inevitable to happen in the country, according to the doctor.
“The honeymoon must be taken care of, we do not know how long it will last, it will not be eternal, it can last two, three or six months. It depends on how we behave. Seeing few cases or feeling free from fateful news also generates an atmosphere of euphoria that can make that increase in cases return much faster,” Sequera said this morning.

The medical professional expressed that the third wave is progressively observed in all the countries of the world, so it is expected that it will also occur at some point in Paraguay. Likewise, he expressed his concern about the relaxation on the part of the citizenry, mainly about those who gather for parties in closed places.
“That there will be an increase in cases, there will be. We see it in every country in the world, there is no exception. We are not aliens, I would not believe that this does not happen in Paraguay. When it will happen is up to us. If it will be happening in 2022 or it will be here in November or December, ”said Sequera in contact with 680 AM.
He referred that the massive activities in closed places could increase the cases and saturate the health services in the face of the delta variant, which already has 83 cases nationwide. “We can have parties with many people in open places, in the open air, the contagion is practically nil. Luckily today they do not generate infections, but when they start to rise again due to delta cases, these events are a time bomb, ”he concluded.
