Pedro Almodóvar and Antonio Banderas had worked together in seven films over almost four decades, from Passions, from 1982, to Passenger lovers (2013).
But none of his collaborations had been as acclaimed as pain and glory (2019), an intimate portrait inspired by the life of the filmmaker who deserved flags the award for best actor at the Cannes Festival in May and a new nomination for the globe ofGold in recent days.
The tape, also postulated to a balloon, was among the 10 candidates for the Oscar for the best international feature film (category previously known as the best film in a foreign language), and to win it would do it exactly 20 years after another Almodóvar film: all about my mother.
In the filmmaker's film, Banderas gives life to Salvador Mello, a seasoned gay director who flirts with drugs and must confront his past while reflecting on his life during a long creative blockade awarded to multiple ailments.
