Marisol Colombo had always dreamed of being an English teacher, but she didn't think her level was good enough. For this reason, 11 years ago, she decided to contact an Englishman through social networks to chat virtually: “I sent a request without knowing who I was sending it to. Josh's profile came up and there was something that caught my eye, it was very 'Beatles'. I added it and here we are, newlyweds.
It was a mutual and instant crush, but the distance and many other factors made them believe for a long time that they would never be together: “We always knew that we were in love, but due to certain situations we did not believe that it was possible to have a relationship. In the midst of the pandemic, one day, while chatting, the question arose: 'How much more time are we going to waste, if we love each other?'
Two weeks after getting married in Resistencia, Chaco, a few kilometers from Makallé, Marisol's hometown, they share their incredible love story: “I remember that the first time I saw her photo I thought she was a beautiful Argentine woman . At first it seemed a little strange that she had contacted me, but we started chatting and it was amazing, in a very short time she became my best friend, ”explains Josh.
They quickly realized that they liked each other, that they had a lot in common and that they had fun together: “The conversation flowed and we were at each other's important moments. Our families and friends knew that on the other side of the ocean we had a special person in our lives”.
The red thread from Chaco to England
“During all these years we were talking via MSN chat, video call, then WhatsApp. We also recorded videos on birthdays and important dates. I was always there for him and he for me."
They also had several disagreements that made it difficult for them to materialize and bet on love: "There were situations in which one of the two wanted to try it, but the other was in a relationship."
The perfect moment of the meeting
“When the coronavirus pandemic was declared, we spent several months locked up. The world was collapsing and I felt that it was time to think about what I wanted for my life, and it was him. I bought a ticket, I had the idea of going to London a long time ago for my career, but I was going for it. I told him and he told me that he would be waiting for me at the airport.
In November, Marisol traveled from Chaco to Buenos Aires and from there to London in the longest flight of her life so far. She was nervous because they had never met in person, but she was confident that the person with whom she had shared the last eleven years of her life would be waiting for her there.
“We had never met, but I recognized him instantly. We hugged and when we left I told him to take off our masks to see each other's faces after so long. The kiss came when we entered into trust.
Two days later they became engaged. The trip, which at first was going to last a few weeks, turned into a five-month stay: "We spent the holidays together with my family and for his birthday I prepared a trip to a place called Bath."
Ask for a hand by video call
After Josh proposed to her, Marisol found out that before buying the ring he had asked his parents for her hand in a video call: “A friend helped me put together the speech in Spanish. It was really funny because once they said “yes” to me, they were so excited that they started talking fast and I didn't understand anything,” Josh recalls.
They set a wedding date for September 10, but they didn't know what would happen due to the restrictions on flights. Finally, and as has been the case since they decided to be together, things turned out just as they wanted: "On the 10th we got married in a ceremony as we dreamed of, with his family from London who were present via Zoom, his sister and the husband from Qatar and my family that lives in Paraguay”.
Waiting for the reunionAfter the wedding they went on their honeymoon to the Falls, Bariloche and the City of Buenos Aires. On October 1st, Joshua took a flight back to London with the hope that Marisol's visa paperwork will arrive soon and they can finally be together: “Now we have to wait for the time since I applied for the visa, which takes about two months, buy a ticket and travel there. We have our whole lives ahead of us."
