Labor absenteeism beats their own record: long -lasting casualties grow 20% in ten years

Labor absenteeism, that is, the hours of work lost due to the absence of the employee with respect to the effective hours, has reached the range of social and economic phenomenon in our country.Its evolution in the last 20 years attests to, from its climbing in the period 2000-2007, when the rate shot from 3.7% to 4.95%, to the current 2018 historical record, when it has made a summitIn 5.3%.Only between 2012 and 2013 this parameter presented a marked decrease, which was anecdotal.

If we translate the percentages into people, the equivalence implies that 753.000 salaries did not go to their workplace throughout the year -In 2017, there were 701.000-.

This problem results in an economic cost in companies and public coffers.The direct impact caused in the last year exceeds 6.900 million euros for companies and almost 4.500 million in benefits;The total cost is fired at 85.140 million, 10% more than in 2017.Only in terms of opportunity cost, that is, the goods and services that were stopped producing and selling, the report points to more than 70.740 million euros.

Most of the work casualties were extended for a maximum of 15 days the previous year - almost 70% - and only 10% meant an absence greater than three months.However, it is important to underline the increase in the average duration of this type of casualties, which amounts to 275 days.A decade ago, long -lasting average was almost 20% lower.

Basque Country, at the head of absenteeism

Size does matter
