Today, taking a paternity test has become an option accessible to all. It's only enough to approach a genetic lab with the DNA samples of each of the people concerned.
They can be considered low cost, because they cost less than 200 euros, although in order to have legal validity they can reach up to 300 euros. If this is the case, you should go to a corresponding approved centre, where professionals identify each person directly from their DNA.
The facilities for the process are such that you can even request a home test, which is performed with two sterile sticks for the child and two for the father. It only takes a little saliva and half an hour to dry the sticks. Anonymous tests of this type of test account for 80%.
The director general of LabGenetic laboratories, Jorge Puente, says that in 30% of cases, the applicant for the paternity test does not turn out to be the biological father. The test is also requested by mothers, but mainly by fathers, who have doubts about the paternity of their alleged children.
This procedure is not regulated in Spain. In other countries, such as Portugal, testing is mandatory for all children born. In Germany, on the other hand, it is necessary for the mother to approve this procedure in order to be able to perform the test.
