On October 25, 2017, the reform of article 58 of the Civil Code entered into force.It highlights the relevance of women's role in the family, allowing them to give their paternal surname to their children, as the first option.The legal advisor and legal service of the capital government explained that the change of last name in people is a simple procedure, since there is an antecedent, which allows the identification of people.

In the case of children who have just been born, the modification to the last name must be in the consent of the parents, the only condition that the authorities put is that the following children respect the new order of the last names.

From October 25 to date, in the Civil Registry 24 families have decided to change the order of their last names, putting the maternal before the paternal.
