A drop of blood, a hair, a little saliva, a tissue or bone sample, are enough to know if a minor is your child or not. A DNA test costs $500,000 on average. The result takes a week or a little longer. When it is part of a judicial process, the cost of proof is initially paid by the State. "and when the process is defined, the person who loses the process must pay the entity of the State that assumed it, which is the Family Welfare Institute," explains Fernando Badillo, professor of family law at Universidad Libre. Bear in mind that evidence to confirm or challenge paternity or filiation may be requested by parents, but also by other relatives or third parties.
