Gila, a good humorist, but an absent father: he did not want to recognize his daughter
The favorite but not recognized
His fame and success in Spain made him attend the birthday party of Carmen Polo, the wife of the dictator Francisco Franco, who was a great fan of the humorist, however, that did not save him from being a lousy father to his daughter, Carmen Gila Visuerte. She was her second daughter, the result of her relationship with Carmen Visuerte, but despite the fact that she did recognize her firstborn, Miguel Gila, Carmen was not so lucky. It is still difficult for her to understand what happened: «In my birth certificate and in my inscription it says: "Mother's name: Carmen Visuerte Jiménez. Father's name and a line"», explains Carmen Gila, something that still hurts her remember and that it seems "very cruel".
He doesn't understand it because he knows that she was his favorite, just like his brother Miguel says: «I think his favorite was my sister». He called her "the spoiled one", and in a way she was, she was her right eye, she gave him everything he asked for, except her last name. He denied her the right to be called Gila throughout her life. "I was not recognized, but I was loved," Carmen once said when talking about her father.
Carmen does not hide what she feels: "You have to tell the truth, he was not a good father for me." She is very clear that her father never really practiced as such, he consented to her on more than one occasion but was never there every day, he was absent at important moments and that can no longer be forgotten.
After Gila fled to Argentina to live his new and illegal love with María Dolores Cabo, everything got complicated, he frequently sent her letters where you could see all the love they felt for each other and every time they I could visit them, but it was practically impossible for them to be in Spain because at that time the situation in Gila was considered a crime.
