RENIEC: Follow these steps to modify your DNI data

Sea porque cambió de domicilio, porque desea rectificar algún error en su nombre o apellido, porque varió de estado civil, porque desea actualizar su grado de instrucción, porque quiere modificar su decisión respecto a la donación de órganos o tejidos, o porque –simplemente– corregirá su estatura, la rectificación de datos en su Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI) es posible y nada complicada.

But, in the case of a procedure that allows the correction of errors, omissions or rectifications of certain data in the ID, it must be requested and made by the owner of the document or, failing that, by the declarant (father, mother or tutor).

How do I rectify my data?

Aunque en un principio, se puede modificar los datos que son impresos en el DNI como nombres y apellidos, donación de órganos y tejidos, estado civil y domicilio, para lo que será necesaria la emisión de un nuevo documento; también podrá solicitar la rectificación de los datos no impresos como estatura y grado de instrucción. Y, adicionalmente podrá actualizar su fotografía y su firma.

Para cada uno de estos casos existe un procedimiento en particular y debe hacerse manera presencial en cualquiera de las agencias y oficinas registrales del Registro Nacional de Identificación y Estado Civil (Reniec) o en los Centros Mejor Atención al Ciudadano (Centros MAC).

Solo cuando haya decidido rectificar la dirección de su domicilio o cuando desee modificar su estado civil podrá hacerlo a través de la plataforma de servicios en línea del Reniec. En este último caso, el trámite virtual solo procede cuando el cambio es de soltero a casado.

Rectification of names and surnames

Podrá realizar este procedimiento para corregir errores u omisiones con relación a la información que se consigna en el acta de nacimiento o en el título de naturalización. Para hacerlo será necesaria la presentación de la copia certificada cualquiera de los dos documentos.

En caso se trate de personas de la tercera edad y fueron bautizadas antes del 14 de noviembre de 1936, para acceder a la rectificación de datos podrá presentar una copia certificada de su partida de bautismo autenticada por un Notario Eclesiástico.

Civil status change

Este procederá cuando se desee cambiar o rectificar el estado civil por matrimonio, divorcio, fallecimiento del cónyuge, anulación de matrimonio o cuando se acredite la declaración indebida del estado civil por el titular de la inscripción en la vía judicial o administrativa (de casado a soltero).

Además del recibo de pago por derechos administrativos, para sustentar su nuevo estado civil como casado deberá presentar una declaración jurada acreditando su nueva condición. En caso sea mujer y desea adicionar el apellido del esposo, deberá presentar la copia certificada del acta de matrimonio civil en caso dicho documento no se encuentre registrado en Reniec.

Married before October 4, 1930 may prove their marital status with the religious marriage certificate certified by an ecclesiastical notary.While marriages held by a foreign authority must be registered in a consular registration office or in the Registry Office when setting their domicile in our country.

Los divorciados deben presentar una copia certificada del acta de matrimonio expedida por Reniec con la anotación marginal de la disolución del vínculo matrimonial.

In the case of widows, the sworn declaration of marriage and the certified copy of the spouse's death certificate, issued by RENIEC, will be necessary.

In all these cases, a new ID will be issued for the new data to appear in your document.

Rectification of organ assignment

If they are of legal age and wish to rectify your willingness to donate your organs and tissues, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 26842, you may do so before Reniec so that in case it died they are used for transplants or grafts.

En este caso, solo deberá presentar el recibo de pago para realizar el trámite y después de realizada la modificación relacionada con la donación de órganos, se le emitirá un nuevo DNI.

Change of the degree of instruction

This procedure will proceed when the degree of instruction is varied or when a degree of major instruction has been recorded by undue declaration.

Para acreditar los grados de instrucción especial, primaria, secundaria, técnica y educación superior completa (bachiller o titulado) podrá hacerlo con la presentación de una declaración jurada.

But, in case you declare a degree of incomplete technical or higher instruction, you must accredit it with the simple copy of the Center for the Study Center, the registration proof, the proof of studies, the certificate of notes or of any diploma.

El costo del trámite dependerá del dato que se haya decidido rectificar o cambiar. Para cambio de estado civil y de nombres y apellidos, la tasa es de S/24.00; para rectificar su decisión de donar órganos y el cambio de domicilio, la tasa es de S/22.00. Pero, si desea rectificar su estatura o su grado de instrucción, la tasa es de S/16.00. Solo en el caso del cambio de casado a soltero, la tasa es de S/81,80.

Si el trámite es realizado para personas con discapacidad, este será gratuito cuando se desee rectificar los nombres y apellidos o el grado de instrucción. También será gratuito cuando la persona sea mayor de 65 años.

The rates vary for those who have electronic ID: S/35 for the change of civil status and names and surnames, and S/34 to rectify their decision to donate organs.

Where and how do I pick up my ID?

Cuando realice el trámite para solicitar la rectificación, deberá indicar la agencia u oficina en la que desea recoger el DNI. Pero, en caso elija una agencia u oficina distinta a la realizó su trámite, deberá asumir un costo adicional.

If the DNI is a minor, your declarant must collect it.If you can not do it, you can pick it up a third with the collection ticket and a power letter containing the digital footprint of the right index and the legible signature of the declarant.

In case you have the previous ID, you must deliver it for annulment by subscribing a statement.If you do not have the previous ID, you must sign an affidavit of loss of the ID, whose format can obtain it when you collect the new ID.
