The first hours of 2003 were disturbing for the Lopera Velásquez family in Medellín. That January 1 they lost track of Cindy: she, who was barely 13 years old, had decided "just because" to leave her house to live with two friends of 15 and 16 years in an apartment; She never imagined that her name would appear in a complaint about her disappearance that she would file with the Prosecutor's Office.
Isis's mother, one of her friends, had two apartments under her name and allowed her daughter to occupy one of them along with the other two. She also gave them financial help while the minors were selling sweets on the street, but none of this was enough to survive poverty and hunger... Two years later, Isis's mother fell into a financial crisis and was forced to rent the property to other people. Also read: Duván David wants to walk despite his disability
“We liked to go dancing in a nearby neighborhood, but to get there we had to go through the Prado sector, in the Center of Medellín, where we had already seen a foster home called the Youth Shelter, so we decided to stay there,” Cindy assured.
The paisa, who was already 16 years old at that time, said that almost all the young people in her paternal family went to that place. There they studied, recreated, received psychological and health care, five meals a day and lodging.
But something incredible happened, at least for her mother, who knew nothing about her: she found out that Cindy, her daughter, was alive and resumed communication with her.
Since then, her parents called her to give her their blessing at night. They decided that she should stay there receiving guidance and everything became calm when she was convinced that her daughter was safe in that place. The tranquility, however, would not last long.
