The mother of a young student with Functional Diversity, who is studying the Middle Grade of Vocational Training at IES Serra Perenxisa in Torrent, has denounced the lack of at least one adapted bathroom, since there are none in the center that meets the conditions required by current regulations.
The student's mother, as explained by the director of the school, made the request for the adapted bathroom some time ago but the adapted bathroom is still in the state of construction award.
Before publicly denouncing this situation, the mother sent an email to the Education Department of the Torrent City Hall explaining her case, which she forwarded to the center's management. The mother replied that she had previously contacted the Director of the Center and informed her that the reform of the bathrooms had already been requested. The mother of the aforementioned student has explained that she no longer received an answer as to where else she could go to present a claim by the City Council (despite having a representative on the IES Serra Perenxisa School Council).
Carlos L.'s day-to-day mobility in the IES Serra Perenxisa center is difficult, especially at two times.
The first is when accessing a ramp with a lot of inclination to save a difference in level of 3 or 4 steps and also, without a non-slip surface inside the center, with the consequent risk for his mother of slipping at any time when she pushes the wheelchair. This could be solved by extending the length of said ramp and also by including a non-slip surface.
The second moment, and at the same time the most serious, is when the need arises to use the toilets or services of the center since there is no adapted bathroom for students with some type of disability. To all this, the only 3 individual toilets are small, with which the wheelchair prevents you from closing the door to have privacy, due to limited space. Of course there is no support bar, either fixed or folding.
In fact, for the above reason, when Carlos L. needs to go to the toilet, a teacher or a volunteer accompanies him to keep an eye on the bathroom door. Some days Carlos L. has not been able to relieve himself because there were many students , because they were very dirty or because you don't want to bother anyone. On those days, the young student notifies his mother so that she doesn't take long to pick him up.
After learning about the situation, Sumant per Torrent has recalled the obligation to guarantee the adaptability of the centers to all people that is contained in Law 1/ 1998, of May 5, on Accessibility and Suppression of Architectural, Urban and Communication Barriers.
For all these reasons, Roberto Gómez, General Secretary of this political formation, presented a Proposal for voting at the City Hall Entry Register and, where appropriate, approval to the Town Hall Plenary in which to urge the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport to give priority to the request for the reform of bathrooms pending in the State of Adjudication of Work in IES Serra Perenxisa.
