The Provincial Council has presented to the Catarroja city council the restoration project for the two barracks located in the School for Foremen of the port of Catarroja, which will become the future ethnological museum of the Albufera.
The deputy for Culture of the Diputació de València, Xavier Rius, accompanied by the director of the Museu Valencià de Etnologia, ETNO, Francesc Tamarit, presented this Wednesday the mayor of Catarroja, Jesús Monzó, and the councilor for Culture and deputy of Sustainable Mobility, Dolors Gimeno, the rehabilitation project.
The project, which has already been put out to tender, has an execution budget of 126,000 euros, and all forecasts indicate that at the beginning of 2023 the museum will be able to open its doors with a museography based on sustainability, the circular economy and self-consumption , highlighting the agricultural, fishing, housing and customs and traditions rooted in the lake.
The remodeling and adaptation works of the shacks with a reformulation and recreation of the traditional habitat will also include the restoration of the cebera, the Moorish oven and an albuferenca boat.
The Barracas museum project, managed by the Culture and ETNO area, will also carry a proposal for collaboration with riverside towns and the construction of tourist, cultural, environmental and educational itineraries.
The permanent exhibition of the Barracas of the future museum, with museography by thematic blocks, will also show the problems of the lake, as well as the agricultural and fishing links of the environment.
After the meeting, the deputy for Culture, Xavier Rius, emphasized "the attractiveness of the shacks as an identity symbol and guiding thread of a cultural project that could be expanded with the participation of riverside towns."
For his part, the mayor of Catarroja, Jesús Monzó, has emphasized "the vehicle of social movements and local entities with links to the port, to promote the environment and the culture of Catarroja, with an unquestionable tourist power".
