Times change and what decades ago could have been a suspicion or rumor today can be verified by a DNA test.
For many people the way of life and relationships is different, with greater sexual freedom in both sexes, today there are probably more children of unknown parents than before.
DNA analysis is now more frequent and accessible than a decade ago, reveals Carlos Rodríguez Fuentes, a gynecologist and obstetrician, who is also an authorized representative for Guatemala of the DnaDiagnostics Center (DDC) in the United States.
Rodriguez Fuentes explained that many future fathers and mothers seek DNA test information during pregnancy and most are done immediately after delivery, before making the decision to legally recognize the child in the National Registry of Persons (Renap) and others throughout the child's first years of life, although he has also performed several tests on adults to determine paternity.
According to figures from the lab that the professional represents, 20 to 30 percent of the DNA tests turn out to be negative.
It is important to mention that in 2008, the Congress of the Republic approved the amendment to the Civil Code with regard to the admission of DNA testing, which is now the only way to verify or challenge paternity or maternity.
If you have doubts about paternity, one option for DNA testing is the women's clinic Cedami, where it is performed with saliva sample with 99.99% or more accuracy and certified by the said US laboratory.
This clinic performs each test twice on different teams to guarantee the result, backed by the best laboratory that for many years was used by Don Francisco's giant Saturday program.
Sample: four sterile swabs are rubbed inside the cheeks (the sample of the mouth is exactly as safe as that of the blood).
Interpretation of results: the test may indicate that the probability of paternity is 0% if it is not the father or 99: 99% (or more) if it is the father.
No disease affects the test result.
Participants can reach the clinic located in Amattlán or if they live in the interior of the country they can contact a medical clinic to take the samples.
They also perform other DNA tests such as grandfather-grandson, nephew uncle, brother-brother, maternity, and testing with the alleged father (or child) living in the United States.
